News from Rijk’s Private Cellar / Rijk’s Estate !
At the 15th Michelangelo International Wine Awards in Cape Town, Rijk’s was once again among the top performing wineries in South Africa with two Double Gold and three Gold medals for their wines. In the 10 years Rijk’s has entered the competition, they have won the Trophy for the best wine on the competition three times. Double Gold went to Rijk’s Private Cellar Pinotage 2007 for this “world class benchmark Pinotage” and to Rijk’s Pinotage Reserve 2007. Gold medals went to Rijk’s Private Cellar Shiraz 2006, as well as Rijk’s Estate Syrah and The Master 2007. Unfortunately we only have the latter two wines, the Rijk’s Estate Syrah and The Master, available at this time and are glad to offer you our residual stock at EUR 29,95. The good news is, that we still carry a number of Michelangelo Double Gold winners from previous years i.e. the Rijk’s Private Cellar Shiraz 2004 at EUR 21,95, the Rijk’s Private Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 at EUR 19,95 as well as the Pinotage Reserve 2006 at EUR 24,95. Please click the “Our Wines” button above for a more detailed description of those wines.
September News
Our Grand Autumn Tasting will be held on October 7th 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at our premises in L – 6969 Oberanven, 45 bei der Aarnescht. This will be a big event where over 40 wines will be available for tasting, representing the largest part of our portfolio of top quality South-African wines
June 2011
Always looking for interesting wines with a good price quality ratio, we recently were able to taste the wines from Lourensford Wine Estate located in Somerset West. Impressed by the quality of these wines, we decided to import a selected number that we found particularly appealing, among which two white wines, namely the Winemaker’s Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2009 at EUR 10,35, the Winemaker’s Selection Viognier 2010 at EUR 10,90 and one Rosé, the River Garden rosé 2010 at EUR 6,50. Among the Lourensford reds we chose the Winemaker’s Selection Syrah 2009 at EUR 12,50 as well as both the Lourensford Merlot and Shiraz 2009 at EUR 9,15. All these wines offer excellent value for money !
The owner of Lourensford also owns Lanzerac in Stellenbosch established in 1692 and one of the oldest wine farms in the Cape. In 1961, the first unblended Pinotage was bottled at the estate. “This visionary release marked the birth of Pinotage as a unique variety from South Africa” – try the Lanzerac Pionier Pinotage 2008 at EUR 30,85, an outstanding wine.
Good news from Vergelegen – Steven Tanzer from International Wine Cellar (IWC) has reviewed quite a number of their wines and awarded them very high notations. In order to get the full report, please go to the Vergelegen website and have a look at http://www.vergelegen.co.za/Tanzer+reviews+2011.html – most of the wines reviewed are now on stock.
At our next tasting on July 1st 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at our premises in L – 6969 Oberanven, 45 bei der Aarnescht, we will be presenting the wines from Lourensford and Lanzerac as well as our entire range of Vergelegen (you will thus have the possibility to compare two different vintages of some of the Vergelegen wines). We will also be presenting the Two Oceans wines in Red, White and Rosé of the 2010 vintage, always excellent companions for your barbeques (EUR 5,20).
April 2011
After a number of years of absence, we are now proud to announce that MEERLUST Estate, one of the leading estates in South Africa, is back on our distribution list. Established in 1693 and owned by the Myberg Family since 1756, Meerlust is currently producing top quality wines on some 110 hectares. We carry their Chardonnay (2008 at EUR 17,00), their Pinot Noir (2009 at 19,75), their Merlot (2007 at 19,25) and their top cuvée the Meerlust Rubicon (2006 at 22,95). There is also a limited amount of Meerlust Rubicon in 1,5 liter Magnum bottles available (2005 at EUR 46,00). We recently received a new shipment from RIJK’S PRIVATE CELLAR and RIJK’S ESTATE which we introduced to the Luxembourg market last year. It is worth while mentioning that we have added two more Chenin Blanc to our selection, namely the Chenin Blanc (with a touch of oak) a “must try” at EUR 11,80 and the regular Chenin Blanc at EUR 15,20. Please have a look at “Our Wines” for the complete list of all the wines we currently carry. Last but not least, we would like to draw your attention to our next tasting, during which you will have the opportunity to discover the wines from MEERLUST Estate as well as RIJK’S Estate and RIJK’S Private Cellar. This tasting will take place in our premises in L – 6969 Oberanven, 45 bei der Aarnescht on Friday May 13th from 17:30 to 20:00.

February 2011
A new delivery of Fleur du Cap wines has arrived, namely the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Unfiltered which both were awarded a Gold medal at the Veritas competition in 2010. We also stocked up on the Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc 2009, which was one of only 39 wines to be rated ***** in John Platter’s 2010 edition of his South African wine guide. A new winery on our list is Beyerskloof, from which we selected their top two wines; the “Faith” Cape blend 2007 as well as the “Diesel” Pinotage 2008. For more information on all our wines, please refer to the “Our Wines” section on our web site. Please note that our spring tasting will be held on March 25th 2011 from 17:30 to 20:00 hours in our premises in Oberanven.

November News
Our next tasting is scheduled to take place on Friday December 10th 2010 in our premises in Oberanven. At that occasion, special emphasis will be put on wines from Kanonkop, Rustenberg and Bouchard Finlayson. We have gotten a new delivery of the Veenwouden Classic 1999 that has been sold out for quite some time (EUR 20,95). This mature blend (Cab. Sauv., Merlot, Cab. Franc) is described as being opulent, with a perfumed palate, layered with cassis, supportive oak and ripe tannins – it is rated ****½ by Platter. Last but not least, we have added the Pongracz Sparkling Rosé to our list (EUR 12,55).

October
3, 2010:

Our September tasting of Rijk’s and Vergelegen wines revealed a number of interesting wines and lots of lively discussions among our guests. Rijk’s wines’ first appearance on the Luxembourg market was very positively received. The bestselling wines that evening being Rijk’s Private Cellar BRAVADO, Rijk’s Estate THE MASTER and Rijk’s Private Cellar CHENIN BLANC. Definitely a winery to keep an eye on.

July 2010 :

We are proud to announce that we have been able to add RIJK’s Private Cellar and RIJK’S Estate wines to our selection of South African wines. Though established only in 1996 in the splendor and scenic beauty of the Tulbagh valley, RIJK’S wines have been rewarded by an impressive array of accolades over the years, amassing almost all the honors a winery could get. Please refer to the “our wines” section for details on the wines we carry.

We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that we received a new delivery from VERGELEGEN and are thus again in the position to offer you the largest part of the VERGELEGEN range including the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay Reserve wines, the White Blend, the red blends Cabernet / Merlot, Vergelegen Red and V, as well as the Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
